„In-beam measurement of the hydrogen hyperfine splitting and prospects for antihydrogen spectroscopy“
A publication concerning the measurement of the hydrogen hyperfine splitting and consequences for an according measurement with antihydrogen was published in Nature Communications by the group at SMI led by Prof. Widmann. For both the measurement of the hydrogen and antihydrogen hyperfine splitting an adapted and vastly improved variant of the classical Rabi method, which allows for a measurement with a precision up to 10-9, was used.
Since the production of a beam of antihydrogen was already successfully facilitated at the Antiproton Decelerator based at CERN, the next milestone will be the enhancement of the antihydrogen production rates to allow for the most precise measurement of the antihydrogen hyperfine splitting to date. These measurements will deliver highly valuable input on the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe.
